Keeping up with a healthy lifestyle when going out of town can seem daunting but it doesn’t have to be! Let’s go over my top tips for staying on track while traveling.
#1: Bring Your Own Snacks
Whether you are traveling by car or plane, healthier options on the go can be harder to come by. Packing your own snacks ensures you have something that will keep you full and provide you with the nutrients you need to feel your best while traveling. Smoothies are one of my fave options to bring in the car. You can check out my go-to green smoothie recipe here.
#2: Pick meal options packed with protein and veggies
I love food so much. One of my favorite things when going out of town is trying new food! I always opt for something with protein and a ton of veggies. Now, I don’t mean that you have to have a salad. Those can be really boring and there are always other options. I am known for ordering extra veggies on the side of my main meal if there isn’t a veggie option on the plate!
#3: Don’t Deprive Yourself of What You Really Want
When you are on vacation please please do not miss out on those treats that you want! Living a healthy lifestyle is all about balance. Having a few treats in moderation will not throw you off track or make you “lose all of your progress”. I know that can be challenging to understand. Trust me, I’ve been there. But if you want your healthy lifestyle to be sustainable you have to let yourself have the things you really really want.
A good example of this is my pancakes at breakfast. I wanted those so bad so I had them. What I did was have them plus eggs and sausage so that my blood sugar wouldn’t spike and I would stay fuller longer.
#4: Water, Water, Water!
Stay hydrated! It can be so hard while traveling because you are on the go. If you can bring a case of water with you in the car or pick one up at your destination, it will make it much easier to have water on hand throughout your trip.
